On March 7, 2010, Asst. Chief Tony Mooney and Capt. Dennis Cannon participated in the 19th Annual Scott Firefighter Stair Climb in Seattle Washington with. This was Asst. Chief Mooney's third year as a participant and Capt. Cannon's second year.
More than 1500 firefighters from 250 departments across the world competed in this years stair climb which takes place at the Colombia Center in downtown Seattle. This event is a timed race up 69 flights of stairs, 1,311 steps in all, while wearing full turnout gear as well as SCBA's (self contained breathing apparati). The race is a fundraising event for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Both Asst. Chief Mooney and Capt. Cannon improved their event times over last years race. Asst. Chief Mooney finished in 44 minutes which was an 8 minute improvement over last year. Capt. Cannon finished the event in 29 minutes 30 seconds which reflects a 23 minute improvement over his event time last year.
