Why is the Flag at Half Staff?
Statement on Flag Protocol During Severe Weather
At Central Oregon Coast Fire & Rescue, we proudly display the United States Flag as a symbol of honor, unity, and service. Out of respect for the flag and in accordance with the U.S. Flag Code, the flag may be temporarily taken down during severe weather events such as high winds, heavy rain, or storms.
This practice is not a sign of diminished respect—in fact, it is the opposite. Lowering the flag during hazardous conditions prevents damage and ensures the flag is displayed only in a dignified manner. Once conditions improve, the flag is raised again to its place of honor.
We appreciate the community’s understanding and support in helping us uphold these traditions with the respect they deserve.
